Congratulations to Gerry Hoadley of Garden Grove for winning Bike of the Month with his 1949 Nimbus Model C.
Gerry won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Gerry has owned this bike for 1 1/2 years and bought it from the estate of Tom Ryan. He has been to our meet a few times with it and it always gathers some attention.
Gerry also owns three Harley Davidson's and his father is working on a couple of bikes that he thinks we will like.
Bike of the Month - January 2012
Back in January 2012, Mogens Fredlow won with his 1953 Nimbus 750 Sport. At that time I wrote:
The overhead cam inline 4 engine was designed in 1938 and continued through 1958 when Nimbus production ended. Although popular in Denmark, Mogens told me that sales fell due to the introduction of the Volkswagen Beetle which sold for about the same price.
A couple of unique features of the Nimbus are it's flat steel frame and the rubber band rear suspension. Unlike other motorcycles the Nimbus does not use tubing for the frame making it a very unique styled bike. The rear suspension consists of strong rubber bands stretched between two posts. Mogens told me that you can purchase stronger bands if you weigh over 200 pounds.
Gerry also mentioned that the flat steel frame is not welded, but riveted together at the factory.
Thank you Gerry for bringing your Nimbus out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our March Gallery.
