Congratulations to Jeff McCoy of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1975 Norton Commando 850.
Jeff won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Jeff has been coming to this meet longer than I have, he's one of the originals. He probably attended the very first one.
He has owned this Norton for about four years and did a complete restoration on it.
This one is painted in the British cigarette maker John Player's colors. 1975 was the last year for the Norton
Commando and there were many changes from the 1974 model year.
To comply with US regulations, the shifter was moved to the left side. Due to this change Norton added a
rear disk brake, one of the first in the industry. It also had an electric start.
Period Correct Mods
Jeff told me that the popular mods were removing the stock airbox and replacing it with a K&N filter, and
also replacing the mufflers with pea-shooters. This bike has both of those mods.
I mentioned at the meet that Jeff wins all the time, however I was wrong, he's actually only won one time in the past:
February 2019 with his 1950 Norton ES2
Thank you Jeff for bringing your Norton out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our November Gallery.
