January Vintage Bike OC Meet
Bruce Fickling Bruce Fickling

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Is this January? It was another perfect afternoon in HB. I don't know why people stayed home, but we had a light turnout with 50 bikes, most of them modern. It was still a great meet and we had enough to choose from for Bike of the Month.

Bruce Fickling, 1948 - 2021
One of our long time members, Bruce Fickling passed away on December 12, 2021 from an accident on Ortega Hwy. Bruce lived in San Clemente and was a frequent rider of the 74. Bruce was active in the community and our group and had won Bike of the Month twice:
December 2018 - 1974 Rickman Metisse
August 2017 - 1972 Norton 750 Commando Fastback

His Orange County Register Obituary can be found here:
OC Register: Bruce Albert Fickling
A scan of it can be found here: Bruce Fickling

Bike of the Month - Steve Ames

Congratulations to Steve Ames of Santa Ana for winning Bike of the Month with his 1992 BMW R100 GS.

Steve won the Bike of the Month plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. www.RussBrown.com.

This is the most modern bike ever to win Bike of the Month. Steve rides his GS often even though it looks like it just came from the showroom.

Read all about Steve's 1992 BMW R100 GS on our Bike of the Month page.

Second Place - Jon Seidell

Jon Seidell of Huntington Beach took Second place with a 1975 Honda CB400F.

This beautiful CB400F Super Sport is actually part of the American Honda company museum collection. It was donated to the museum by Gary Christopher who worked for Honda in the PR and Racing areas. Jon say several magazines are interested in covering this bike before it's returned to the museum.

Third Place Tie - Grant Lappe

Grant Lappe of Huntington Beach tied for Third with his 1975 Honda Trail 70/175.

I'm not sure enough people paid attention to this custom build from 2010. Grant slammed a Honda 175 twin and all sorts of custom goodies in this Trail 70. Grant does such nice work, that it looks factory.

Third Place Tie - Steve Woods
Steve Woods of Huntington Beach tied for Third with his 1963 Honda CL72 250.

Steve has placed several times with this bike. Unfortunately today he left before I could shoot photos. The bike was restored by our member Dave Zamiska.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event. A special thanks to John Zindler for helping out with the voting today. Debbie and Tom Hopkins were unable to attend today, I look forward to seeing them again soon.

I'll see you all next month on February 13, 2022.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
