Congratulations to Larry Fisher of Chino Hills for winning Bike of the Month with his 1947 James Autocycle. Larry won a $20.00 Beach Burgers gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers.
This was Larry's first time to our meet. He may have a bit of "beginner's luck" with Greg McBride taking his Vincent home early, but this all original Autocycle is very cool.
Larry has owned the Autocycle since 2007. He purchased it in England with the idea of riding it across that country. He is the third owner, and it was road registered 70 years in the UK since it was brand new.
Versatile Engine Design
The Autocycle has a 98cc 2-stroke Villiers 1F engine. According to Larry, most british cycle companies after the war used Villiers engines in their small bikes. Villiers built the engines during the war for the paratrooper's bikes.
The engine was built in two sizes, the F size is 98cc and the G is 123cc. It came with three different transmission options, 1, 2, and 3 speed.
Larry has a collection of small motor bikes and also brought a 1969 35cc Velo Solex Cyclemotor from France.
Thanks Larry for bringing this unique bike to our meet. View all the photos in our May Gallery.
