September Vintage Bike OC Meet

Huntington Beach, Calif. - We had a nice warm afternoon today in Huntington Beach. As Texas is beginning their recovery from hurricane Harvey and Florida is being hit by Irma, we have so much to be thankful for here in So. Cal. with our perfect weather. We had 45 bikes at the start of the meet and by the end the official count hit 86.

We had so many cool bikes today. First timer Karl Ardo of Mission Viejo showed up very early with his wild custom polished aluminum 1962 Triumph Duplex drag bike. Another first timer Jeff Quick of Huntington Beach was there early with his 1962 BSA B15 Bobber with a B40 engine. Gerald Prendergast of Cypress brought his beautiful 1970 Honda CB750, and right next to him was Mike Gutierrez of Huntington Beach with his 1969 Honda CB750 Sandcast. As cool as all of these where, they didn't make the top three.

Bike of the Month
We had a very close contest today for Bike of the Month. Six bikes gathered a significant amount of all the votes and there was only a spread of four votes between first and third.

A special thanks goes out to Roland Ortiz of EuroPapi Motorcycle Streetwear, www.europapiusa.com for providing Euro Papi t-shirts for Bike of the Month prizes.

Congratulations to Kirt Keller of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1951 Ariel Square 4. Bruce won Specialty Formulated Motorcycle Cleaner provided by the WD-40 Company and a EuroPapi t-shirt.

WD-40 now produces a line of specialty formulated motorcycle products WD-40 Specialist Motorcycle

This was the first time here for Kirt's Ariel, He's owned it since April and recently finished getting it back on the road. Read all about the 1951 Ariel Square 4 on our Bike of the Month page.

Second Place
Nick DiBenedetto of Huntington Beach came in Second with his 1967 BSA 650 Lightning Hornet. When Nick bought the Hornet, it was a full on dirt bike, and not street legal. Nick added all the lights and necessities to get it on the street.

Nick has several great bikes, one in particular won Bike of the Month back in September 2014 is his 1964 Twin Engine Triumph. If you're not familiar with this beast, check out the link. You won't be dissapointed.

Third Place
First timers Mike & Laurie Hartman of Trabuco Canyon stole enough hearts to take Third place with their 1969 Honda Z50 Monkey. Mike is a retired shop teacher who bought this bike a year ago as a "pit bike" for his racing Shelby Cobra. The bike meets the requirements of being "street legal" and fitting neatly into the back of his pickup with a topper on it.

What a great day! Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event and a special thanks to the team, Tom & Debbie Hopkins. I'll see you at the next meet on October 8, 2017.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
