Congratulations to Frank Colver of Costa Mesa for winning Bike of the Month with his . Frank won a $20.00 Beach Burgers gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.
Frank Colver Day
I'm officially declaring June 10, 2012 as Frank Colver Day. Frank took this bike down the the Lyon Air Museum 1st Annual Bikes & Bombers event and won First Place at that event. Then he brought it up to ours and won again.
Four Time Bike of the Month Winner
This is the fourth time Frank has won our Bike of the Month contest. Frank has been active in this group longer than I have. In August 2007 Frank brought his 1927 Sunbeam to the first meet that I ran. At that time I didn't have a voting method in place so I declared Frank the winner (I Am the King). Not very democratic, but it worked, and nobody seemed to mind. Since then Frank has won twice. In January 2008 he won with his 1947 Matchless 500cc G80L and in October 2008 he won with his 1923 Harley Davidson WF.
Frank has owned this Scout since 2003. According to Frank the Military standard for motorcycles in WWII was twin cylinder, flat head, side valve 500cc engines. Harley didn't follow the standard and provided 750cc bikes. This gave Harley the edge post war when the Service Men remembered how much better the Harley's performed.
This bike was built 25 years ago by Bob Stark of Starklite Cycles, www.starklite.com. The engine is a 1943 and was brought to Bob still in the crate. Bob built the bike using a 1941 frame and as many NOS parts as he had available.
Thank you Frank for bringing it to our meet. View all the photos in our June Gallery.
