The Bike of the Month contest is held monthly at the Vintage Bike OC meet. Qualifying motorcycles must be 30 years old or older. Former Bike of the Month winning bikes are not eligible to win again.
Anyone attending the meet is eligible to enter a qualifying bike in the contest and vote for
their favorite bike. The winning bike is chosen by a popular vote and is featured on the Home page for one month and in this feature article. The Bike of the Month articles are permanent content on the site.

Doug Rickertsen of Huntington Beach with his 1974 Honda XR75
Country of Origin: Japan
Transmission: 4 speed
Owner: Doug Rickertsen
City: Huntington Beach
Congratulations to Doug Rickertsen of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1974 Honda XR75.
Doug won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
He just recently finished the seven month restoration on this Honda that he's owned for 30 years. He taught all three of his kids to ride on this bike, plus all the neighborhood kids.
Doug has become a master at restoring these little Honda bikes. He does everything but the paint and has his own method for getting the fork tubes perfect.
Last month he told me his secret. Polish the forks to a mirror shine, then brush them in a single circular motion around the tube with 0000 steel wool.
After that a clear coat and they look just like they came from the factory. I'm sure he won't mind me sharing his trade-secret, it's elbow grease.
RE-MX.com His Favorite Supplier:
Doug told me his favorite supplier for these small Honda motorcycles is re-mx.com. They have the parts you need
to get the job done.
This is the fourth time he has won Bike of the Month. Here's the run down:
June 2023 - 1975 Honda MT250 Elsinore
August 2022 - 1975 Honda MR50
April 2021 - 1971 Honda SL125
Thank you Doug for bringing your XR75 out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our July Gallery.
