Congratulations to Norm Michaud of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1984 Honda Ascot Custom.
Norm won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Norm has been around our meet off and on since its inception. He was coming home from the Quail Motorcycle Gathering a couple of
months ago where he was trying to sell some bikes. In working on his ads, the ad came up for this Honda that he just had to see.
Norm ended up buying the bike from Chris Moore in Ventura. Chris built the bike in 2008.
Instead of me writing a bunch about it, I'm just going to present the ad as Norm saw it:
What really sets it apart is the custom aluminum tank and side covers custom made by the late Fred Muhlenhort of Racetec in Oxnard, California, near where I live. They are strictly one-off items that Fred designed and built after I showed him photos of the look I was going for. Fred made a lot of the gas tanks for AMA Pro Flat Trackers among other things. Side covers are mounted with aircraft Dzus fasteners. And needless to say, he was a master with fabricating aluminum!
Some of the other features are listed below.
-
Custom twin exhaust system using chrome Shadow header pipes with Norton Commando peashooter mufflers. 17” Emgo megaphone style mufflers, originally mounted, also come with the bike (the last photo shows the bike with the Emgos and the clipons in the lower position). Custom pipes fabricated to join headers to mufflers.
-
K&N air filter and DynoJet jetting kit.
-
Seat from a 1990 Honda GB500.
-
Raask (Sweden) rearset foot pegs.
-
Tommaselli adjustable clip-ons. They can be adjusted for a lower position also.
-
Alloy headlight brackets (Tommaselli copies) with a 7” classic British headlight assembly.
-
Stainless steel speedometer and tachometer. The speedo has warning lights for oil pressure, high beam, neutral and turn signals.
-
Custom gauge mount for speedo, tach, and coolant temp gauge.
-
Handlebar mounts removed from top triple tree and then polished.
-
Both wheels stripped of the black paint to the natural aluminum.
-
Norton Commando fork boots.
-
Lower fork legs polished.
-
Analog coolant temperature gauge.
-
Alloy fenders, front and rear, with hand fabricated mounts.
-
Lucas type alloy tail light.
-
Hagon rear shocks.
-
Stainless steel front brake line.
-
Roller bearing headset
-
Rear drive from a Honda Shadow giving it slightly taller gearing which it pulls easily.
Thank you, Norm for bringing your Honda out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our June 2025 Gallery.
