Congratulations to Scott Derkum of San Clemente for winning Bike of the Month with his 1974 Norton Commando.
Scott won a Mr. Pete's Grill gift certificate provided by Mr. Pete's Grill. This was Scott first time to our meet with the Commando.
This bike was built in 2003 by Matt Rambow of Colorado Norton Works in Delores, CO. It is build #35 from the Norton Works, and Scott has owned it for about six months.
The bike has many custom bits including a single Mikuni carb replacing the original dual Amal carbs. Brembo front brakes and a Corbin Gun Fighter seat to name a few.
According to Scott, Corbin got their start building aftermarket seats for the Norton. The success of their Gun Fighter seat lead to a damand for other brands, and the rest is history.
Scott also mentioned that the right side shift pattern on a Norton is different from other bikes with a one up, three down pattern. Something that doesn't effect him until he goes back to one of his other bikes.
Thanks Scott for bringing it to our meet. See all the photos in our May Gallery.
