Congratulations to Bill Parrone of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1951 Gilera Saturno Sport.
Bill won a Mr. Pete's Grill gift certificate provided by Mr. Pete's Grill.
Bill has won twice before, first with his 1955 BSA Goldstar in September 2015 and then with his 1960 Moto Guzzi Falconi in December 2015.
Bill imported the Gilera from Italy about one year ago.
The bike was in decent shape, but required extensive mechanical restoration.
1951 was the first year for the sprung rear suspension, before that they were hard tails.
There is a handlebar control for the Country & City exhaust cut out baffle.
The engine is a stressed member of the frame to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity.
The Gilera Saturno dominated the 500cc class at the Grand Prix and TT circuits of Europe in the early 1950’s.
