Congratulations to Bob Laho of Costa Mesa for winning Bike of the Month with his 1970 Harley Davidson Sprint.
Built by Aermacchi, of Varese, Italy the Harley Davidson Sprint was designed to take on the competition from Japan. Bob's dad, Bob Laho Sr. bought this bike in 1970
and it's been in their family ever since. I'm sure Sr. will be happy with the win.
Bob an his friend tore the bike down one weekend in the mid 70's and painted it orange without his dad's permission. When his dad saw the new color, he loved it.
He has been working on cleaning the bike up and is not quite finished. He is planning on restoring the wheels. I guess a little rust doesn't sway some voters.
It bothers some people that we don't have professional judging. Well to me that's what makes our meet fun. You just never know who will win. Even Bob was surprised with today's win considering some of
the custom and restored bikes we had in the show.
Thanks Bob for bringing it to our meet. See all the photos in our November Gallery.
