Congratulations to Owen Bishop of Laguna Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1968 Yamaha YAS1C.
Owen won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Owen has owned the Yamaha for five years and completed the restoration four years ago. He did a complete ground up restoration, however
all of the rubber parts are original and some are showing their 53 year age.
He won Second Place at the 2018 Quail Concours in the Japanese division with this bike, and has won at several other events.
Owen is the owner of Moto 41 Motorcycle Restoration in Laguna Beach, www.Moto41.com.
This is just one of many of Owen's beautifully restored works. For more photos and photos of his other bikes, visit his site.
When Owen purchased the bike, it was painted in Pegan Gold (a stock color for 1968), and the frame number ended in "666".
It made him a little leary to ride the bike... Upon further investigation, he found that it was originally Pearl White, one of 100 painted this
color specifically for the US market. Pearl White was a color Yamaha was using on their guitars in 1968.
Thank you Owen for bringing your Yamaha out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our October Gallery.
