Congratulations to Jeff McCoy of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1930 Scott Flying Squirrel.
Jeff won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Jeff has been a member of the group since it's inception, longer than I have. He always bring something interesting to our meet.
Usually he doesn't stick around long enough to compete.
He has won Bike of the Month twice before:
November 2020 1975 Norton Commando 850
February 2019 1950 Norton ES2
The 1930 Scott Flying Squirrel is a very rare bike especially in the United States. Jeff told me that
he is a member of the International Scott Motorcycle Ownwer's group and there are only about 450 members world wide.
It was built in Shipley England and was way ahead of it's time in technology. The Scott Motorcycle Company was
in business from 1908 until 1969.
According to Jeff, they invented the kick-start for the motorcycle industry. Prior to this all motorcycles were pedal start.
Another innovation is the water cooled engine from 1930.
A third innovation on this bike is it has two tanks, and oil tank and a gas tank. I does the oil/gas mixing automatically.
Thank you Jeff for bringing your Scott out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our June Gallery.
