Congratulations to John Weatherwax of Costa Mesa for winning Bike of the Month with his 1949 Whizzer 20" Sportsman.
They won a Mr. Pete's Grill gift certificate provided by Mr. Pete's Grill.
This was John's first time here with his Whizzer. He has owned this bike for six years. It was fully restored by Len Shyrell of Tulsa Oklahoma. John also owns a 26" Whizzer on a Schwinn frame.
Whizzer started out making engines to fit on standard bicycles. The 20" Sportsman was an attempt to move closer to the motorcycle category. This bike has only footpegs, no pedals and is kick-start only. 1949 was the first year of production for the Sportsman.
John has a shop down in Costa Mesa and is a neighbor to John Calicchio and Triumph Classic Motorcycles. Calicchio suggested that Weatherwax should bring his Whizzer to the meet. Funny he lost the contest to him... not that it matters, we're all here for fun and good times.
Thanks John for bringing it to our meet. See all the photos in our December Gallery. |
