VINTAGE BIKE OC NEWS

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Another day in paradise. At one o'clock this afternoon I was home in Garden Grove in the middle of light rain showers. According the weather.com, it was only raining in my neighborhood, and it was clearing up in Huntington Beach. I decided to take my chances and make the eight mile ride and risk getting wet. Three drops of rain are all I counted on my helmet shield. By the time I arrived at the beach the sky was clearing.

Today I was the first bike to arrive, sort of unusual but I expected a light turnout due to the transitional weather. Tim Kuglin of www.MotoZania.com had already arrived ready to cover our event. Soon Frank Colver showed up on his '47 Matchless, followed by Carl Felix on his '55 Norton. We were just beginning to comment that Carl was going to win Bike of the Month by default, when people started rolling in.

The weather turned nearly perfect, just a little on the cool side. My official count was 17 bikes, a good showing for February.

Maybe it was the Pro Bowl on TV, but the ladies were out in force today. For the first time that I know of, Bike of the Month went to a female owner. Julie Tomlinson of Costa Mesa won with her 1977 Yamaha XS400, definitely a crowd favorite. The Japanese bikes dominated the field today, hmm, I always thought the Brit's enjoyed the rain.

Well we weathered this storm, hopefully March 8 will also be sunny. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this another great meet.
