Congratulations to first timer Mike Fritz of Garden Grove for winning Bike of the Month with his 1979 Yamaha XS650 Special.
Mike won a trophy provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Mike has owned this bike since 1981. In 1984 he totalled it in an accident, but brought it back to original stock condition.
Mike may be new to our group, but he's not new to motorcycling. 197x was his AMA number when he raced Flat Track on his Yamaha 250 back in the mid 1970's.
Fast forward to nine months ago when Mike decided to create a Street Tracker from his XS650. The bodywork, front plate, tank and pipes are from Omars Fiberglass.
Mike cleaned up the frame and changed the rear wheel from a 16 to 19 inch rim, machining all the necessary parts for the conversion.
The frame is powder coated and the fresh paint was shot by Ray Newman of Paramount.
